It would be hard not to take notice of an all-black folder featuring a vividly contrasting red metallic foil.
Not knowing with certainty the nature of the company’s business, we assumed that it was in heavy industry, or at
least, something rugged.
After cursory research, we learned that, indeed, we were correct.
We wanted to know the company’s philosophy regarding the creation and use of folders, so we interviewed David
Steingass, marketing associate at
Wurtec.
FOLDERPRINTERS WRITERS: Please describe your company and its services or specialty.
DAVID STEINGASS: Wurtec is a supplier to the vertical transportation (elevator and escalator industry). We design,
manufacture, and distribute tools and components for the installation and service of vertical transportation.
We also engineer and manufacture complete elevator systems for residential and commercial use.
FPW: What makes you stand out or differentiates you from your competition (if you have
any)?
DS: Commitment to customer service; innovative and collaborative approach to product development; and vertical
integration with capabilities in engineering, manufacturing, and distribution.
FPW: Are folders in any way a part of it?
DS: We use folders to help us convey information to our customers.
"A hard copy [folders with contents] is still the best way to put the information right in front of a customer
so they can follow along. Additionally, it gives them something physical to take home with them that’s more
memorable than a digital file attached to an email or placed on a flash drive."
— David Steingass
FPW: Who are your main customers?
DS: Companies specializing in elevator and escalator construction and service. Also, building owners and homeowners.
FPW: What purpose do your folders generally serve? Is it for marketing or selling? If so,
What problems or challenges in marketing, selling do the folders solve for you?
DS: Our sales personnel are the primary users. When visiting customers or making presentations, they bring folders
containing product specifications, flyers, and brochures to hand out to customers.
It is important that the folders look classy and professional while also being durable.
FPW: Has there been a particular instance (or instances) wherein folders helped in any of
your goals? If so please share any anecdotes.
DS: Some of our higher-tech products (like our multimedia emergency communications system for elevators) are complex
and have many different brochures, spec sheets, and manuals covering different aspects. When our sales personnel
educate customers on these products, the folders help them provide these documents in an organized manner.
FPW: When do you hand them out?
DS: When our sales personnel visit customers or give presentations, they hand out folders containing relevant
product sheets.
FPW: Who designs your folders?
DS: Our marketing department.
FPW: Have the folders proven to be effective? Do they work?
DS: Yes.
FPW: In this digital, internet age, why use analog presentation folders?
DS: When giving a presentation, a hard copy is still the best way to put the information right in front of a
customer so they can follow along. Additionally, it gives them something physical to take home with them that’s more
memorable than a digital file attached to an email or placed on a flash drive.
FPW: What was your aesthetic philosophy or aim in coming up with the final design.
DS: As a B2B manufacturing and engineering company, we want our branding to convey elegance and seriousness. The
black linen folder underscores this while also contrasting nicely with the red foil logo (red is our signature
company color).
FPW: Are these your first professionally printed folders? What made you decide to go with
Folderprinters?
DS: No – I believe we may have ordered a similar design from Folderprinters in the past.
FPW: Did you look at other folder sellers’ websites? What made you choose FolderPrinters?
DS: I did look at a couple of companies providing branded items. However they were not folder specialists and the
pricing and selection of folders they offered did not meet our needs.
"It [folders with contents] gives them [customers] something physical to take home with them that’s more
memorable than a digital file attached to an email or placed on a flash drive.""
— David Steingass
FPW: What was your experience using the website? Was it easy to use?
DS: Yes, set up and checkout were fast and easy.
FPW: Did you use our online design tool?
DS:I believe so – used it to drop and size logo.
FPW: Did the final product meet your expectations?
DS: Yes.
After learning more about Wurtec, we came away with a greater appreciation for how they were able to — through the
design of their folder — accurately project their company's qualities and identity: power, strength, and
reliability.
There is, however, a word from the interview answers that we did not expect, but were nonetheless pleasantly
surprised to find: classy. And indeed, it does aptly describe Wurtec’s custom foil stamped linen folder.
As a
leading national
manufacturer custom presentation folders, we are pleased that, yet again, our belief in the significant role
custom presentation folders play in many a companies' marketing, sales, and branding efforts.
Of course, we are proud and honored to have been trusted by Wurtec to produce their formidably impressive folders.
